About the Author

Hi there! I’m Ashley Wright, the creator and author of this blog. As you could guess, researching, understanding and “untangling” trauma is my passion. I am a Certified Social Worker and I currently work as a children’s therapist, specializing in sexual trauma.

I attended Utah State University and received my Bachelor of Social Work degree. During my time in the Social Work program, I worked at a shelter for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault for my internship. I did advocacy work helping victims of domestic violence and worked extra hours on the mobile crisis team, meeting with rape victims at the hospital for their physical exams.

After graduating, I moved to Salt Lake and got a job working at a Title One middle school in North Salt Lake, where I got unofficial diversity training and saw how childhood trauma affects kids in all aspects of life.

While in Salt Lake I decided to move forward in school to get my masters degree. I was accepted to Boise State University and moved to Idaho to complete the advanced standing program. My internship during that schooling was at the Family Justice Center in Nampa, ID where again I worked with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, both children and adults.

My treatment philosophy is humanistic, which means that I believe people already have what they need to heal within them. My job as a therapist is simply to support each client in accessing their internal power. I also work from a trauma-informed practice, meaning I take care to understand how each client’s trauma has impacted their functioning overall; in their perception of the world, how they interact with the world and how they view themselves.
